Early years

It was in August 2010 that he came to prominence, making his debut for Birmingham in a League Cup tie against Rochdale, when he was aged only 16 years and 173 days.

Redmond’s emergence was no surprise to those at St Andrews, though, who had witnessed his talent since he joined their academy set-up at the age of eight.

His league debut arrived at the start of the 2011/12 Championship season, when he also featured in Birmingham’s Europa League campaign, with the team having qualified as a result of winning the League Cup the season before.

Key man for the Blues

Redmond’s first goal in fact arrived in a 3-0 win over Portuguese club Nacional in a Europa League tie at St Andrews on 25th August 2011.

By the end of that campaign, he had helped Birmingham reach the Championship play-offs, although Blues would be edged out by Blackpool in the semi-final.

By now, Redmond was an integral part of Birmingham’s team and was also moving through the ranks at international level.

Becoming a Canary

The summer of 2013 was a big one for him, as he featured in the Under-21 European Championship, before Norwich paid £3.2m to bring him to Carrow Road.

Unfortunately for Redmond and Norwich, they would be relegated from the Premier League at the end of that campaign, but they bounced back at the first attempt, with Redmond scoring the second goal in their 2-0 play-off final win against Middlesbrough, at Wembley, in May 2015.

Redmond would again feature for England at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, before impressing once more during the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Redmond provided six goals and three assists during the campaign, although his good form was not enough to prevent Alex Neil’s team from dropping back into the Championship.

Sealing a move to Saints

His Premier League return came quickly, as he joined Southampton in the summer of 2016.

Redmond made an immediate impact, netting a goal on his debut in a 1-1 draw with Watford at St Mary's.
