Cédric: Our heads won't drop

Saints defender Cédric insists spirits will not be dented by the late defeat to Chelsea.

The Blues came from behind to triumph 2-1 at St Mary’s on Saturday, thanks to late goals from Cesc Fàbregas and Branislav Ivanović.

The result brought to an end a six-game unbeaten streak for Ronald Koeman’s side, but Cédric believes there is plenty of reason to remain positive ahead of Bournemouth, having controlled much of the match.

"I'm very disappointed, of course,” Cédric told Southampton’s official YouTube channel. “I think we didn't deserve it. In the end they didn't create so much. They had more ball possession, but they didn't create so many chances to score. I think it is a little bit unfair, but it's gone and we need to think on the next game.

"I think we are in a good moment. We had amazing results in the last few weeks, so now we need to think immediately to the next game about Bournemouth. It's going to be a tough game away, but our team is together and still we are in a good moment and I think we are going to do a very good game.

"Always when you lose you want immediately to have a game on the next day if it's possible, so I'll look forward for Tuesday and I hope we win the next game.”

Cédric did feel that Saints should have been awarded a penalty in the second half, when the score was 1-0, after Charlie Austin was brought down by a sliding Gary Cahill.

“From my point of view it was clear,” he said. “It's not my decision, but it's a tough moment for them to see as well. But I think it was a penalty. But we cannot think about that. We need to try to resolve our problems in another way.”
