Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that 18-year-old defender Christoph Klarer has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at St Mary's until June 2021.

The Austrian youth international, who joined the club in 2016 from SK Rapid Wien, has become an increasingly important part of Radhi Jaïdi’s Under-23s set-up this term, making a seamless transition from last year’s tenure as Under-18s captain.

Turning 19 in June, Klarer has set his immediate sights on maintaining this season’s impressive form, but, like many of his Academy colleagues, would also like to catch the eye of manager Ralph Hasenhüttl in the near future.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and just want to keep the hard work going and improve every day,” the teenager explained.

“It's all been worth it. The lads are great friends of mine now, and I feel settled here.

“I’m only looking forward. I hope to finish the season strongly and make something happen.

“Obviously I want to have a chance in the first-team when my time comes. The dream is to make my debut for this club and there's always a chance if you're playing well.

"Staff, coaches, analysts; everyone has helped me along the way. I'm thankful for everything they've done for me really."
